The North West, like the Free State, is a ‘Big Sky’ province consisting of classic bushveld terrain stretching from Gauteng to the Botswana border.
Game Reserves & Sun City
Madikwe game reserve is the North West’s best kept secret, only 4 hours drive from Johannesburg on the Botswana border, and it is a great choice for visitors wanting a different ‘Big 5’ malaria-free game viewing experience. Home to the wild dog, black rhino, cheetah and brilliant wildlife, with many accommodation types to suit all needs, ranging from farm houses to luxury game lodges.
The North West also boasts the famous resort of Sun City. Only two hours drive from Gauteng, it offers a variety of accommodation options, including The Palace of The Lost City, which is a luxury five star hotel. With lots to offer to suit all ages, including the Gary Player and Lost City 18-hole championship golf courses. Casinos, entertainment and man-made attractions are the thing here. Within easy reach of the Pilanesberg National Park, home to the ‘Big 5’ and in a great location for visitors from Johannesburg and Pretoria with little time or those who are after a ‘soft game experience’.
The province is a gateway region to the neighbouring Botswana.
