Metal-flowers Cape Town & the Garden Route

Our Property Recommendations

Our most popular itinerary.

You can enjoy the attractions of one of the worlds most spectacular cities, tour the winelands and garden route and end your holiday on safari, which is the highlight of many a trip to Africa.

South Africa is an easy country in which to drive – long open roads with relatively little traffic by European standards - and the Western Cape is probably the easiest area of South Africa to drive in. Most of the drives are 2-3 hours with the longest being approximately 4 hours.

What makes this such a popular itinerary is the contrasts. Cape Town is one of the most scenic and exciting cities in the world. As well as there being plenty to do. Cape Town has a great variety of accommodation options ranging from good value Bed & Breakfast establishments to some fine boutique city hotels and country house style places. In addition the food and drink on offer in Cape Town rivals any major city in the world, and given the favourable exchange rate is exceptional value for money.

Within an hours drive or so of Cape Town is the winelands area, perhaps even more scenically beautiful than Cape Town itself. The wine estates are very accessible and the towns and villages of the area pleasant and safe.

The Garden Route

‘Route 62’ is a scenic drive that will get you to the heart of the Klein Karoo and Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich capital of South Africa. From here you can visit the Cango Caves, an Ostrich farm or drive over one of the most spectacular mountain passes in Africa, the Swartberg Pass, to the delightful Karoo town of Prince Albert – not for the fainthearted !

The ‘central’ garden route centres around Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Plettenberg Bay has great swimming beaches, Tsitsikamma National Park, Storm’s River Mouth, Nature’s Valley and The Crags are close by, or just relax and soak up the peace and quiet of this stunning area. Knysna is a charming town set on a large lagoon.

Finally you end up in the Eastern Cape and from here you have a variety of game viewing and safari options to choose from – private game reserves, country house hotels and retreats or a bed & breakfast establishment. Any of these options will give you access to the thrill of big game viewing in this non-malarial area of South Africa.

Sophisticated city living, wine-tasting, spectacular and varying scenery, coastline & activities and the thrill of a safari – those are contrasts !

Other options include a stop at the Cape South Coast; a prolonged trip along ‘Route 62’; Jeffrey’s Bay (for surfers); or continue up the Cape Wild Coast towards Durban.
