Grand Southern Africa Tour
14 days, 4 countries - a classic grand tour
Start with South Africa and Cape Town, one of the most spectacular cities in the world and a regular on any list of ‘top tourist attractions’. Firmly positioned on the international tourism map, Cape Town offers a myriad things to do and places to see, whatever your tastes, inclinations or budget.
Cape Town to Namibia
There are daily flights from Cape Town to Windhoek and this is your next destination, the gateway to Namibia. You will spend a night in the capital before heading south to the awesome desert and dunes of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Nestled amidst red dunes and set against a backdrop of almost unparalleled beauty this private reserve is an exclusive base from which to explore huge tracts of awe-inspiring nature and learn about a variety of desert creatures. A late afternoon scenic flight over the nearby dunes at Sossusvlei can be a life-altering experience !
The next journey surely ranks as one of the most exhilarating in Africa. A light aircraft over the desert back to Windhoek, connecting with an onward Air Namibia service to Maun across the mighty Kalahari and finally another light aircraft to take you into the heart of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The Windhoek to Maun service operates thrice weekly (Wednesday, Friday & Sunday) in a 19-seater turboprop aircraft – all other flights on this itinerary operate daily.
Botswana & Victoria Falls
Your 5 day stay in Botswana combines one of Africa’s great natural attractions – the Okavango Delta - with Chobe National Park. The Okavango Delta is a wetland within a desert, getting its waters from rain failing in central Africa over 1000km away, and sustaining a huge diversity of wildlife. Chobe National Park (incorporating Savute) is renowned for its predator and Elephant populations.
The excellent game viewing in Botswana finally gives way to another one of the natural wonders of the world – Victoria Falls – seen from the Zambian side and sescribed by the local tribesman as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ - ‘the Smoke that Thunders’, in reference to the colossal columns of spray. A fitting finale to your Southern Africa Grand Tour.
In keeping with all of the itineraries shown on this website this is simply a suggestion – albeit a great one ! Itineraries can be amended to suit your individual requirements or tastes, subject only to the constraints of your imagination, flight schedules and budget. Why not make your journey more enjoyable and upgrade to Business or First Class on the international flights ?
