Friends of Conservation

We at Africa Collection are conscious of the environmental impact of flying so we support the ‘Friends of Conservation’ who offer travellers the opportunity to ease some of the environmental impacts. They support community and conservation initiatives around the world which  include alternative energy and forestry programmes in Kenya and projects in South Africa that focus on habitat acquisition, conservation and renewable energy activities. In addition to reducing levels of atmospheric carbon, these programmes also provide a number of social, economic, educational and environmental benefits for local communities.

Carbon Reduction Map

You can easily calculate how much impact you have on the environment whilst flying abroad by using the link below which has been supplied by Friends of Conservation’s which includes a 'Carbon Reduction Map' system.

On the map there are four bands with suggested amounts per band based on the distance travelled from the UK for return flights. The suggested amounts are in line with DEFRA’s current guidelines for the cost per tonne of carbon and are based on the approximate levels of CO2 emitted on an average flight.
