A deluxe 12-night itinerary – South Africa in style !
Start your adventure in the 75 000 hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, situated in the far north of the North West Province, adjacent to the Botswana border. Madikwe Game Reserve is home to 66 large mammal species including the Big 5 and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species. The largest ever translocation of game occurred in the early 1990’s when 10 000 animals of 27 species were moved to Madikwe in Operation Phoenix. It is a conservation success story and one of South Africa's largest and best game reserves.
Rail journey
From the thrill of the bush to the epitome in luxury rail travel, taking either The Blue Train or Rovos Rail to Cape Town, having spent the previous night in the capital city of South Africa, Pretoria. The on-board luxury and refinement of these two trains is exceptional and comparable with any luxury trains worldwide – there is no more pleasant way to travel than this !
Cape Town
The rail journey takes you through the Great Karoo desert and the fertile valleys that surround Cape Town. Described by Sir Francis Drake in 1580 as ‘the fairest cape in all the world’, the ‘Mother City’ of Cape Town is one of the world’s top tourist destinations. With plenty to offer the tourist you should never get bored. Table Mountain is the iconic backdrop of Cape Town rising over 1000m above sea level - it can be seen from all over the city. Taking the revolving cable car up to the top is a must or if you’re feeling adventurous there are several hiking routes to the summit.
The Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront is a prime attraction in the city, a working harbour and tourist attraction offering world class shopping, a huge variety of restaurants, cafes & bars. The ferry trip to Robben Island, the site of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration for much of his 27 years in prison, leaves from here. The park-like botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch, Cape Town’s beaches and the city centre with its outdoor street markets, boutique shops & stylish restaurants are all added attractions.
From Cape Town you are also within striking distance of the winelands, Hermanus and the West Coast National Park – all pleasant day trips.
Other possibilities include flying in South African Airway’s award winning Business Class – please ask us for details; stay in an exclusive waterfront apartment, with a private chef service available; a private guided tour of the winelands with a specialist tour guide; a full day private boat charter in Table Bay; or get married on the top of Table Mountain.
