World Class Beaches, Diving and Snorkelling
Mozambique has plenty to offer, from world-class beaches, diving and snorkelling to deep-sea fishing and sailing. Growing in popularity Mozambique is also home to some genuinely spectacular Indian Ocean island resorts, and has over 2500km (1500 miles) of clean sandy beaches and rugged coastline - all just waiting for you to enjoy and explore.
The capital Maputo makes an interesting stopover, retaining much of its Portugese charm, fused with modern Africa. Visitors to the city can enjoy the refreshing sea breeze at the many restaurants serving locally caught seafood, and one of the regions great colonial-era hotels – The Polana.
Exclusive Africa Beach Experience
We offer accommodation choices in the Bazaruto Archipelago, further north in the Quirimbas Archipelago and Maputo itself. The lodges and hotels are of an increasingly good standard and are typically 20-50 rooms in size. Mozambique is for those looking for an exclusive African beach experience, to get away from it all and to enjoy solitude and adventure.
The Quirimbas Archipelago stretches for 100 kilometres along the coast in northern Mozambique. Consisting of 32 tropical coral islands and some of the richest coral reefs in the world, it stretches from Pemba (the capital of Cabo Delgado Province) to the Rovuma River, which forms the natural frontier between Tanzania and Mozambique. The area is largely undeveloped and remains a little discovered tourist paradise providing the habitat for an amazing array of marine life. The southernmost 11 islands and a large expanse of mainland forest form the Quirimbas National Park - a conservation project to preserve and protect the area. Lodges in the area include Quilalea, Ibo Island Lodge and Matemo Island Resort.
Once part of the mainland the Bazaruto Archipelago was formed an estimated 25 000 years ago when a peninsula broke away from the African mainland. Declared a National Park in 2000, the archipelago comprises the larger islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra and Magaruque as well as the smaller Banque and Santa Carolina, and sustains a diverse range of fauna and flora including forest, savannah and wetland ecosystems. Lodges in the area include Indigo Bay, Marlin Lodge and Benguerra Island Lodge.
Access is via regular flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, Maputo and Pemba; Durban to Vilanculos and Maputo; Kruger airport to Vilanculos. Internal scheduled flights, light aircraft and boat transfers then take you on to your chosen island lodge.
