Dramatic Battlefield Tours
Isandlwana Lodge offers a rare glimpse into the life and customs of the Zulu people. In addition to dramatic battlefield tours there are walking trails, horse riding, photographic trips, birding tours and cultural events. Each bedroom has a private balcony and stunning views of the amphitheatre of the second battle of the Anglo Zulu War, which took place on 22 January 1879.
Tours led by Rob Gerrard
The Battle of Rorke’s Drift, made famous by the film “Zulu”, is a short distance away. Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift battlefield tours are led by Rob Gerrard, author and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, or one of his associates. Other Anglo Zulu and Anglo Boer War tours are available. Another popular activity is the Zulu Village Safari, a walking tour led by a qualified, licensed Zulu guide who takes guests into a typical home, the church, schools or clinic, and to see a sangoma (diviner).
Candlelit Dining
Candlelit dining is on tables made from African woods, set off by high-back chairs covered in iNguni cowhide. Relaxing at the pool, socialising with other guests or enjoying the view from every vantage point, Isandlwana Lodge affords an opportunity to experience a place of remarkable history and culture.
